Back when Andy & I used to live in California, we would always go on weekend trips to surrounding cities and states outside of Oakland, Ca. Since moving to New York four months ago, we decided to keep the weekend ritual going by visiting cities and states surrounding the busy city. This weekend, we chose the state's capital -- Washington D.C! It was my first time being there in 10 years, and Andy's first!
Instead of taking the plane there, we decided on the bus route which gave us some extra time to sit back and work without having to worry about falling asleep behind the wheel. Huge thanks to Alice for helping us book the tickets which costed a total of $110 roundtrip for the both of us. We departed from the New York Penn Station and after 4 hours of being on the road, we arrived in Arlington, Va.
We arrived at The Kimpton Donovan around midnight Friday night and were welcomed with a bottle of wine in our amazing presidential suite. This property includes a fitness center, rooftop pool that transforms into a rooftop bar after 4pm, and Japanese restaurant, Zentan located in the lobby. When you first walk into the suite, you'll be able to see the living room, beautiful view of the Thomas Circle, and the bedroom to the right. The entire room was very spacious and comfortable thus making it feel just like home.
Moving into the bedroom, you have an incredibly comfortable king-sized bed, a vanity, work desk, and beautiful white-tiled bathroom with a bathtub and cocoon-spiral shower. When traveling with Andy, we usually prefer to have our own dedicated space for work and this was perfect for us. I utilized the vanity space as my makeup station, and he used the other desk for work.
Although we didn't get a chance to dine-in at the Zentan during our short stay, we got to experience the in-room dining for breakfast instead. Not only was the food delicious, but the service was incredible as well. It was the perfect start to a long day of exploring the city.
I'd like to thank The Kimpton Donovan for the amazing hospitality during our weekend in Washington D.C. I would definitely recommend this hotel to those who are visiting the area whether you're here for just the weekend or even longer. The location was also really convenient as we were able to walk to all of the main attractions on foot. And if you want to venture out even further, there's a metro station about ten minutes from the hotel! Hope you enjoyed this blog post. Thanks for stopping by! Xo.
